Your Job Hunting Campaign Blues Are Over

We have certainly been through some tough economic times over the past few years; but you
don’t need me to tell you that.  The good news is
that the sun is beginning to shine again. If you read newspapers or listen to the radio then you must have heard that companies are beginning to hire again.  Yesterday I had lunch with a corporate recruiter for a major corporation in Connecticut. He told me that they are hiring. Even better news is that people at his firm are leaving for new jobs.  This means that once again there is
movement in the employment marketplace. If you have been looking for a job for a long time and have lost enthusiasm,  now is the time to reinvigorate your job hunting campaign.  Here are three tips that might help get you going again.

First thing I suggest is to rewrite your resume.  Sound like a boring chore? It won’t be if  you follow my advice.  Here is what I suggest you do. Keep your resume basically the same except add
what I call marketing bullets.  Marketing bullets are simply short  statements that demonstrate previous accomplishments where you improved your employer’s bottom line. If your resume does not currently contain such information it is at a severe disadvantage.  Think of all the bottom line improvements you have made and pepper your resume with them. You’ll be amazed at the increase in your resume’s  response rate.

My second suggestion is to reapply. Take your enhanced resume and reapply to companies that you especially liked but, for some reason,  the hiring process didn’t go your way with your first resume submission. Your new resume might catch them at a better time. Just do it. Yes
it’s a little bold but all competent business persons are a little bold. And you are a competent business person.

My third suggestion is to  execute your new strategy in every communication you have
with prospective employers. What new strategy you ask?  The one I gave you in suggestion one: that you are a competent business person who is obsessed with making bottom line improvements for their employer. If you can convincingly communicate this idea in every communication you make with a prospective employer you will stand out from the crowd.

I don’t know about you but I say the future is looking brighter. I suggest you implement my three ideas and take full advantage of this new employment
marketplace.
